Deaths in the PA Bituminous Coal Districts, Vol. I, 1888-1897 and Vol. II, 1898-1901. (Also known as Fatal and Nonfatal Accidents in the Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Districts) The Superintendent of every coal mine in Pennsylvania was required to send to the Mine Inspector an annual report listing fatal accidents occurring within their district for the previous year. These volumes include summaries of those published reports for the western bituminous counties of Pennsylvania. Entries include the name of the deceased, date of accident, date of death, location of accident, his occupation, and age. Most include marital status and number of children.
