Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Church was established by a group of Serbian and Russian immigrants who purchased a Protestant church building on Hazel Street in McKeesport on October 15, 1900. During the previous decade, residents in McKeesport and Duquesne had to travel to a Russian Orthodox Church in Wood Run for Holy Liturgy and the sacraments. While the church was being transformed, the Serbs and Russians could not agree upon which saint to whom they would dedicate their church. The Serbs were in the majority and the church was dedicated to Saint Sava. The Russians withdrew from the church. In the early 1950’s, the current church, located at 901 Hartman Street, McKeesport was built.
