Genealogy Day

Join us in person at Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh on Sunday, February 22, from noon to 4 pm. In addition to educational sessions, local genealogical societies, plus libraries and archives with genealogy research collections, will be on hand to answer questions and share resources.

We will also offer a limited number of Brick Wall help sessions. Registration for these 30-minute appointments will be posted on CLP’s Events page during the week of Feb. 1. Anyone unable to book a session on Genealogy Day are invited to make an appointment with a CLP librarian for help on other days — visit the library’s Appointments page and select Family & Local History.

The program schedule is:

1:00 pm Lineage Society Panel Discussion: Representatives from WPGS First Families, Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Society of Mayflower Descendants will talk about application processes, common pitfalls, what societies offer for members and answer audience questions.

2:15 pm Research in the Coroner Case Files: The University of Pittsburgh holds case files from the Allegheny County Coroners Office, which investigated all deaths that were not attributed to natural causes. These records are a valuable next-level research tool for genealogists, and David Grinnell from Pitt will be explaining their uses and how to request information.

3:30 pm Genealogy Open Mic: Share your own genealogy stories.
