Transcribed from the microfilm of original documents of the Pennsylvania State Archives, Harrisburg; Record Group 7, Records of the General Assembly; House of Representatives; Septennial Census Returns (Series 7.26), Westmoreland County. Septennial Census Returns containing the names of taxable Inhabitants appear for all of the counties and dates represented In this series. In addition, most of the later returns list their occupations, and a few contain information on sex and age. Data on deaf and dumb and on blind persons are also found among the later returns. Inhabitants are listed according to Township or other political subdivisions, with these subdivisions arranged alphabetically in some but not all cases. Returns beginning with the year 1800 also contain data on Slaves, with their name, age, and sex of each usually given. The names of the owners are sometimes listed in addition to – and occasionally in place of – the names of the slaves.
